Recently, the 22nd International Ship and Offshore Structure Congress (ISSC 2025) was held in Wuxi. Over a hundred top experts, scholars, industry professionals, and representatives from international organizations in the field of ship structure gathered to discuss technological advancements and future development in the field of ship and offshore engineering structures. China Classification Society (CCS) was invited to attend this session.

At the opening ceremony, Zhang Qingwen, Vice President of CCS, delivered a speech. He emphasized that as the technical think tank for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), the ISSC not only showcases academic achievements but also serves as a crucial platform for the industry to build consensus and chart a shared future. Zhang pledged that CCS will actively engage in global exchanges and collaborations within the shipbuilding and offshore engineering sectors, contributing innovative solutions and tangible results to advance the sustainable development of maritime innovation worldwide.

Sixteen technical committees have comprehensively summarized and reported on technological advancements and hot topics in offshore technology fields such as environmental challenges, structural strength, material manufacturing, design criteria, AI and data applications. This provides solid support for planning future research directions in global shipbuilding and offshore structures, as well as for developing international maritime regulations and industry standards.

Zhan Zhihu from the ISSC Ultimate Strength Group and Song Xia, an observer in the Fatigue Strength Group, actively participated in various research initiatives. They bridged cutting-edge technologies, academic studies, and engineering applications, significantly advancing research on CCS technical standards. During this session, the congress re-elected new committee members, establishing the ISSC2028 Committee. Zhan Zhihu and Song Xia were elected as committee members. They will continue to leverage ISSC2028 as a platform to enhance technical exchanges with other committees, making greater contributions to the development of ship and offshore engineering.
